Day of Praise and Prayer for Seventh-day Adventist Operated Schools
Schools operated by the Seventh-day Adventist church are not only commissioned to cater for Academic instruction but also to provide for the physical, social and spiritual development of students, thus assisting in making them well rounded individuals, prepared for the challenges of life and also for eternity.
Students are lead through prayer, praise and worship, Bible readings and the integration of faith and learning, to experience God as the object of true education, thus in the process obtaining a better understanding of the character of God and His intervention in human affairs.
In this regard, on Tuesday April 26, 2011, all Seventh-day Adventist operated schools will suspend Academic instructions and will be engaged in a full day of prayer, praise and worship; Divine intercession will be made specifically for:
- all students across the country as they prepare for examinations of one kind or the other.
- students who are victims of abuse, low self-esteem and abandonment.
- all stakeholders of education, including Ministry of Education, parents/guardians, teachers, school constituency.
- the governance of our country
- victims of recent disasters
Prayer is a vital and important spiritual imperative that should engage the attention of everyone especially in these violent and challenging times to which we have come. The earlier children can develop a prayer relationship with the Lord the better it will be for all concerned as we will be nurturing the next generation to lay hold on Divine strength to face the battles of life.
The day’s activity will include, praise and worship, scripture reading and reflections, prayer, intercession and responses, testimonies, prayer chain, motivational enlightenment, consecration and recommitment to the ideals of Christianity.
At the end of the day it is hoped that the following objectives will be achieved.
Students will:
- get closer to God through prayer.
- talk to God and praise Him as the Father who loves all irrespective of class, colour or creed.
- recognize Jesus as a friend to all and a model to follow.
- understand that prayer is not only asking and receiving, but includes thanking, worshipping and praising the Lord.
- appreciate the purpose for being on planet earth.
- seek to fulfill the highest potential.
There are five Seventh-day Adventist schools in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, two secondary and three primary with a total enrollment of approximately 850 students. This day of prayer coincides with the Constant in Prayer initiative of the world-wide Seventh-day Adventist church.
